A good ten minutes were played on the center court of the TIPS arena in Linz, when Tamara Korpatsch had to get rid of her frustration. Korpatsch was 1: 3 behind the American teenage girl Cori Gauff, initially not much went together with the Hamburg woman, so it was not surprising that Korpatsch asked the question loudly: "What am I playing here?"

But the moment of anger passed quickly, because afterwards the German outsider had little reason to complain. When the final round was finally settled in this qualifying game, Korpatsch was the brilliant and completely deserved surprise winner, and by no means too short with the 6: 4, 6: 2 work certificate. Korpatsch in the main field, Gauff failed, no one had expected this at the 29th edition of the WTA tournament in Linz, which will be known as the "Upper Austria Ladies" in 2019. “I would have liked to have been in the main field. But at the moment it's going a bit bumpy for me, ”said Gauff later. The "child prodigy", which had been the focus of interest in Wimbledon and at the US Open, just like the superstars of the industry, is now playing in double competition in Linz, together with her compatriot Catherine McNally.

Here is the single tableau in Linz

Anna-Lena Friedsam had previously qualified for the main competition, winning a much more dramatic game against the American Shelby Rogers with 6: 3, 4: 6 and 6: 3. Friedsam is coached by former US Open winner Roberta Vinci at the tournament, but apparently this is only a temporary solution. The winning German qualifying trio was completed by Laura Siegemund, who won 7: 6 (11: 9) and 6: 0 against Czech Tereza Martincova. On Monday morning, the DTB announced that Julia Görges would be assisted by Fed Cup coach Jens Gerlach during the tournaments in Linz and Luxembourg. Görges recently separated from her entire tennis team, coach Sebastian Sachs and physiotherapist Florian Zitzelsberger. It is unclear whether Görges will continue to focus on training and life in Regensburg.
