Ons Jabeur's second title on the WTA tour is also a first big one for the Tunisian. The 27-year-old crowned a great tournament in Madrid on Saturday evening by winning the title, with 7: 5, 0: 6 and 6: 2 Jabeur finally put her opponent Jessica Pegula in her place. In the WTA world rankings, Jabeur will move up to seventh place, the 27-year-old's best placing so far.

The final against Pegula developed into a real roller coaster ride for Jabeur: If the world ranking tenth set was won after a 4:1 deficit, it was a heavy setback in the second round, with the Tunisian having to take the maximum penalty with 0:6. Jabeur was unfazed, showed great tennis in the third set and finally got the upper hand 6-2.

This makes Ons Jabeur the first Arab tennis player to win the title at WTA 1000 level. For the 27-year-old, it is the second title win after her triumph in Birmingham last year.
