The 20-year-old, who was completely out of action in 2020 due to a knee injury, is still on a comeback. The best tennis is still a long way off, but the Canadian is fighting - which she emphasized after her victory. "I know my game can be better. But I try to find ways to get through on my bad days. And I think I'm doing quite well," she said after the two-hour and 45-minute match Youngsters.

"I think that's what makes a really good player. And I try to be that good player, like in 2019. Today I did that, I'll just keep fighting, the rest will come."

In the round of 16, the 2019 US Open winner will now face Garbine Muguruza. The Spaniard, who started 2021 with a 20: 4 record, beat Anna Kalinskaya 4: 6, 6: 3, 6: 4.

Ons Jabeur takes Kenin out

Ons Jabeur had previously caused a little surprise with her 6: 4, 4: 6, 6: 4 victory over Sofia Kenin. She had previously lost all four matches between the two, but this time she fired 40 winners on the other side - in the end she won her third victory over a player from the top 5. Next opponent: Sara Sorribes Tormo. "I wanted to take revenge because I lost to Sofia so often," said Jabeur.

Today's matchday starts at 5 p.m. CEST with a treat - and it has it all afterwards: Then the world number one Ashleigh Barty will meet the former number 1, Victoria Azarenka. Then Naomi Osaka plays against Elise Mertens. Followed by the game between Andreescu and Muguruza.
