Kenin, like most of the other top seeders, struggled to get going. And lost the first set against the long-time German Fed Cup player 6: 7 (6). But then the American managed to turn the tide and finally won 6: 1 and 6: 3. In the third round, Kenin faces Ons Jabeur, who also had to go over three sets against Paula Badosa.
Jennifer Brady , who had reached the final of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in Melbourne at the beginning of the year, was surprisingly eliminated. Brady, who is looked after by the German Michael Geserer, was defeated by the Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo 6: 3, 4: 6 and 1: 6.
In the afternoon games on Friday, Naomi Osaka, Karolina Pliskova and Garbine Muguruza had already secured their tickets for the third round.
