Laura Siegemund threw a knee injury at the WTA tournament in Miami. As the players' association WTA announced, the 33-year-old from Metzingen withdrew before her second round duel against the two-time Grand Slam winner Viktoria Azarenka (Belarus). A German duel in the third round is no longer possible - Azarenka meets Angelique Kerber (Kiel) or the Mexican Renata Zarazua.

In addition to the three-time major winner Kerber, only Andrea Petkovic is represented in Miami from a German perspective. The Darmstadt woman had defeated the Chinese Shuai Zhang 7: 5, 6: 1 in the first round and is now facing the former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin (USA).
