WTA Ostrava: Blockbuster Draw with Svitolina and Pliskova
Elina Svitolina and the former world number one Karolina Pliskova are the two top seeders at the Ostrava Open, which was held for the first time. The US Open finalist is also in the strong field of participants.

In the coming week, the WTA Tour will host one of its few tournaments of the remaining season. For the first time, a premier event will take place in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
Svitolina is number one in the tournament and can face Maria Sakkari right at the start if she beats Kristyna Pliskova. In a possible semi-final, Svitolina could face Azarenka, who is returning to her favorite surface after her disappointing French Open.
Pliskova faces Donna Vekic or a qualifier after a bye. Aryna Sabalenka, number three in the tournament, starts against Katerina Siniakova or a qualifier. Coco Gauff and Bethanie Mattek-Sands are represented in the qualification.
The WTA Finals have already been canceled, the next tournament after Ostrava is planned for Linz. The tournament in Austria's third largest city is planned from November 9th to 15th.
The organizers obtained a special permit from the Czech government for hosting the Ostrava Open. The country is currently one of the hardest hit by the Covid 19 crisis.
