Bianca Andreescu and the bad luck with injuries is a story that has occupied the women's tennis world for almost two years. Since the Canadian sensationally won the US Open 2019, Andreescu's cancellations have been increasing, mostly injuries that made it impossible for the 20-year-olds to compete.

Now the Canadian will also be missing in Parma, where Andresscu wanted to prepare for the French Open. The world number seven has not contested a single match since the Miami Open in early April. In Florida, the 20-year-old had to give up in the final due to an injury.

Williams sisters start in Parma

There are two very prominent short-term starters in Parma. As it became known on Thursday, the Williams sisters Serena and Venus will receive a wildcard in Parma. "Serena hasn't competed for a while and we want to play as many matches as possible before Roland-Garros - that's why we're adding the Emilia-Romagna Open to our schedule," wrote coach Patrick Mouratoglou on social media.

The Parma WTA 250 event will start on May 16. A week later, the French Open, the absolute highlight of the European clay court season, awaits in Paris.
