Former world number one Angelique Kerber gained further self-confidence at the WTA tournament in Strasbourg for the French Open, which begins on Sunday. The player from Kiel beat Magda Linette from Poland 6:2, 4:6, 6:4 in the quarter-finals on Thursday afternoon and can continue to dream of her first tournament victory of the year. In the semifinals, the three-time Grand Slam winner meets Viktorija Golubic from Switzerland or Oceane Dodin from France.

Kerber, second seeded, started concentrated against Linette (No. 8). In the first set, her break to 3:2 made the preliminary decision, as she safely got through her own service. A balanced second round followed in which Kerber lost her last service game. In the decisive round, the 34-year-old kept her nerve and converted her fifth match point after more than two hours of play.
