Paula Badosa won the title at the 2022 Sydney Tennis Classic

Already the semi-final between Barbora Krejcikova and Anett Kontaveit at the Sydney Tennis Classic was hard to beat in terms of excitement. After saving seven match points, the Czech was able to book the final ticket with her fifth decision point after 2 hours and 30 minutes of play. With the strong performance of Paula Badosa, the next tough nut was waiting for the lady from Brno in the final of the WTA 500 event.

After all, the current number nine in the WTA rankings from Spain led 2-0 before today's game in a direct head-to-head with the Mährin. The omens were there for another tight spot - and Krejcikova and Badosa didn't disappoint their fans at all. The final was again a top-class game over the full distance. In the end, Badosa won again after 2:22 hours of match time with 6:3, 4:6 and 7:6 (4).

Badosa in sixth place from Monday

The second match point in the short decision of the third set brought the 25-year-old Iberian her third tournament success on the WTA tour. In 2021, Badosa won the clay court tournament in Belgrade and the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells. The southern European is also making a leap forward in the world rankings - from next Monday she will be in sixth place on the WTA list.

Krejcikova, on the other hand, has to wait for her fourth title at a WTA event - the 2021 French Open winner celebrated her last tournament win at her home event in Prague in mid-July last year.
