As we already reported at the beginning of August, a new tennis blockbuster is in the cinema pipeline: "King Richard" with superstar Will Smith shows the moving life story of Richard Williams, who had his two daughters Venus and Serena from the Los Angeles working-class district Compton on the largest international tennis stages in the world. The film premiered on November 19 in the USA, Great Britain and the pay channel HBO Max. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the cinema release of the lavishly produced screen spectacle is scheduled for February 24, 2022.
Good ratings from film platforms
So three months that the German-speaking audience has to wait longer. Hopefully the additional time will be invested in a cleanly produced dubbed version. In any case, a successful PR campaign by the industry giant Warner Brothers caused a little hysteria among the young British players who train at the Wimbledon performance center. In addition to the two female leading actresses Demi Singleton (Serena) and Saniyya Sidney (Venus), none other than Will Smith paid the young talents a training visit himself.

The cast in attendance initially made themselves available for a few drill units before moving on to the more relaxed part of the event with opportunities for a little chat and photos. So far, the film seems to have been well received by the English-speaking audience - currently “King Richard” holds a more than solid score of 7.5 on the renowned film platform “IMDb”, among other things.
