Daniil Medvedev enjoys 14 months of age ahead of Alexander Zverev, on the other hand, the German number one entered the tennis circuit a year before Medvedev. Now Zverev has already won 17 tournaments, his Russian colleague "only" 13. Does this mean that Zverev is ahead in the internal duel? Well, the successes in larger tournaments have run almost parallel in the past few years.

So far, Zverev has been able to credit himself with five titles in the ATP Masters 1000 tournaments (Rome and Montreál 2017, Madrid 2018 and 2021 and Cincinnati 2021), Medvedev four (Cincinnati and Shanghai 2019, Paris-Bercy 2020 and Toronto 2021). In addition, both players were already successful at the ATP finals: Zverev 2018 with the sovereign final success against Novak Djokovic, Medvedev in the last edition in London 2020 in the final against Dominic Thiem.

Zverev leads on the balance sheet against Medvedev

With his triumph at the US Open, Daniil Medvedev has now presented properly. Alexander Zverev played his part in this victory, and the defeated Novak Djokovic did not want to deny that: The semifinals against the Olympic champion would have blown him, Medvedev was physically much fresher in the last match of the tournament. For Medvedev it was the third major final, Zverev, as is well known, has only contested one. And was only two points away from victory there. After his very stable Grand Slam year in 2021, you probably don't lean too far out the window when you predict that Alexander Zverev will win one of the four biggest tournaments in tennis in the coming season. Or that Daniil Medvedev adds the next one.

In the direct duel, Zverev is just ahead of the game with 5: 4 wins. It is remarkable, however, that there has only been one duel between him and Medvedev in the current season: at the beginning of the year at the ATP Cup in Melbourne. Since the current world number two was able to prevail against Zverev.
