The hopes for a WTA tournament in Pörtschach / Austria only lasted for a short time, because it was not possible to implement the COVID-19 measures until the planned start of the tournament on August 31. The result: a cancellation for 2020 - with the hope of hosting a tournament in 2021.

The game options for the women will remain, however, because the WTA tournament (125k) planned at the same time in Prague (from August 29) will expand its field from 64 to 128 participants, as tennisnet learned from experts. 120 directly qualified players and 8 wildcards will start. The registered women for Pörtschach have already been re-registered accordingly.

Prague is currently the "place to be" for tennis professionals. The WTA International tournament is currently still running, in the next two weeks the ATP will host two Challenger tournaments in the Czech capital (with Stan Wawrinka, among others). Afterwards (and thus at the same time as the US Open) the women can play again.
