The 25-year-old from Hamburg won 7-5, 6-2 against Cristian Garin from Chile.

Zverev triumphed in Rome in 2017, this year he is still waiting for his first tournament victory, but is in better shape before the French Open in Paris (from May 22nd). After the final in Madrid last Sunday, there is not much missing from the longed-for title in the Foro Italico either.

Against Garin, who won all of his five tournaments on the ATP tour on sand, it was a tough struggle at the beginning. After the hard-fought first set, however, Zverev pulled away, converted his first match point after 1:51 hours and did not lose a set in the course of the tournament.

"I've never won against Cristian, never with the juniors, never with the active players. I'm very happy about this win," said Zverev on Sky.

On Saturday, Zverev will play against either the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas or the Italian Jannik Sinner for a place in the final. "Both are in good shape," said Zverev.
