Andy Murray recognized the point of a short message service precisely. "Fuck" - that was his Twitter message after his demise against Alexander Zverev in Indian Wells, and sometimes that's enough for a precise analysis. /

Murray had led against Zverev with a break in both sets, but many mistakes made progress impossible, even if Zverev also did not set off any fireworks.

Murray then had to face the press and - he's a nice guy - inevitably stayed there a little longer. "A lot of mistakes", he analyzed for both sides, "there was good material there, but it mixed up with the bad." The Scot went on to say that there was "no consistency," and that he missed average tennis today, "it was either good or bad."

The positive for the three-time Grand Slam tournament winner: The hips hold, and so do the trimmings. "Physically, I feel better than I have for a long time," said Murray. His game is just not right at the moment, "the decisions in the important moments are not good."

Murray slips around 50 places in the world rankings

His plans? Nobody can guarantee that his hips will last for the next five or six years, "but I'll take the risk." But: "I'm out there against the four or five best players in the world, without my best tennis and with a metal hip, and I'll keep up with them. I think that's really funny."

However, Murray has to cope with a setback: He had only recently stated that the ranking itself did not play such a big role for him , it was more about improving it so that he did not have to compete against top personnel so often in the early rounds. Murray will have to keep working on this: on Monday he will lose around 50 places and only line up around 170th place. The reason: His 250 victory points from the tournament triumph in Antwerp at the end of 2019 are then not counted.
