Andy Murray doesn't want to end up like Ivan Lendl

Andy Murray let his training go a little late in the year - but he had an eye on the scales for a reason.

After his unexpectedly quick and successful comeback with the title in Antwerp , Andy Murray took a break, also for the family. His third child was born in the fall, Teddy, and his elbow had taken time out anyway. /

For 12 days, he "literally did nothing" and grew during this time - from his usually 84 to 88.5 kilograms, Murray recently confessed to the British Telegraph . The evenings were the problem, according to the 32-year-old: Teddy was in bed around 7 p.m. and his wife had three hours of sleep before he woke up again. And Murray: "I was on my own and fed chocolate chip cookies." To make matters worse, Halloween got in the way, the birthday party of his second daughter and that of his wife Kim's sister, which in turn resulted in a lot of cake and bad food. In combination with zero training, this was not good, said Murray.

Murray about Lendl: "Everything went down the drain"

A warning example, if he ends his career, he has in this regard anyway. "He'll probably kill me for it," Murray jokingly told his ex-coach Ivan Lendl, "but I've always said: I don't want me to be like Ivan. When he played, he was in great shape and very thin. When he stopped, everything went down the drain. I want to avoid that, "he made reference to the tummy that Lendl has been wearing since retiring. He didn't care that he would draw Lendl's displeasure with this statement. "I know if you put that in your newspaper, I'll get a message from him tomorrow."

After he almost resigned, he didn't know when he was going to quit anyway, Murray said. Of course it would be nice if Teddy could still see him playing, "but that's not my priority". He hoped that he could get a few more years out of his body.

Murray is currently working on a pelvic injury. On Saturday, he announced that he would not do the upcoming Australian Open (from January 20). His season start is now planned for the ATP tournament in Montpellier from February 3.
