Germany's top player Angelique Kerber has signed the former tour professional Dieter Kindlmann as the new coach. The 37-year-old Allgäuer will take over the position of interim coach Dirk Dier, who had been in charge of Kerber shortly after his departure from Rainer Schüttler in July. For Kerber's condition in the future, the Italian Marco Panicci is responsible, who among other things, belongs to the team of the world ranking second Novak Djokovic.

"As much as I enjoyed my free time, I am so excited to return to training and I am very happy to announce that Didi Kindlmann joins my team as the new coach," said Kerber on Twitter on Thursday afternoon ,

After Christmas, last year's Wimbledon winner and former number one competed in a show fight against Maria Sharapova in Hawaii. The 31-year-old's tennis year begins at the tournaments in Brisbane and Adelaide, from where the road leads to the Australian Open in Melbourne, where she won her first of three Grand Slam titles in 2016.

Much experience

Dieter Kindlmann has been a trainer on the WTA Tour for seven years. In 2013, Maria Sharapova (Russia) brought him into her team as Hitting Partner. Since 2016, he has worked with Anastassiya Pavlyuchenkova (Russia) and Laura Robson (UK), before joining Madison Keys (USA) in the US Open final in 2017.

In July 2018, Kindlmann joined as head coach in the team of the Belgian Elise Mertens, most recently he was coach of the Australian Ajla Tomljanovic. His own career as a player Kindlmann 2012 had to end because of a persistent shoulder injury.
