Thiem started strong and immediately took Cerundolo's first service game. And didn't look back: After 32 minutes, the first set was 6:1 on the credit side. The course of round two was exactly the opposite: it also lasted 32 minutes. This time, however, it was Cerundolo who was able to defeat the strong Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler in his first match, who equalized 6:1.

The decision was balanced up to 3:3, then Thiem gave up a 40:15. Cerundolo could now build on his forehand and made the break to make it 4:3. And immediately returned it with four penalties with the same forehand. In the twelfth game, Thiem took his first chance to make it into the last eight. And at the same time ensured that from Monday he would again be the best-ranked Austrian in the ATP charts.

Hubert Hurkacz, number one of the tournament, awaits in the quarter-finals. The Pole had already prevailed in three sets against the British Jack Draper on Wednesday. Thiem's record against Hurkacz is 0: 3. Most recently he lost against the Poles in Metz.
