At the beginning of the second set of his meeting with Botic van de Zandschulp, Novak Djokovic seemed a little bored in the Astana hall. The 21-time major champion won the first round 6: 3 after an early break, but he still demanded a little more animation from his box. The 34-year-old got that too. And won the second set 6-1.

For Djokovic it was the sixth match success in a row without losing a set, last week the Serb cruised safely to win the tournament in Tel Aviv. Incidentally, the last defeat in a competitive game on the ATP tour dates from the quarterfinals of the French Open, which Novak Djokovic lost to Rafael Nadal in a remarkable match. Then came the triumph at Wimbledon. And a long summer break that only came to an end at the Laver Cup in London (where Djokovic surprisingly lost to Félix Auger-Aliassime).

Medvedev on track Djokovic?

Now it's up to Novak Djokovic against Karen Khachanov. The balance clearly speaks for the man from Belgrade at 6:1. The only victory for Khachanov was in 2018 in the final of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy.

In Astana, Djokovic could meet Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals. But the Russian has to beat Emil Ruusuvuori and then Roberto Bautista Agut in the last round of 16. In the upper half of the tableau, the quarter-finals are Andrey Rublev against Adrian Mannarino and Stefanos Tsitsipas against Hubert Hurkacz.
