Carlos Alcaraz is perhaps the most spectacular name on the tennis circuit in 2022 - no wonder the 19-year-old's commitment to the ATP tournament in Basel is making waves. Because Alcaraz will open in Switzerland from October 22nd to 30th, as reported by the tournament.

As of now, Alcaraz will only be the second largest attraction in Basel. Because record champion Roger Federer has also announced his coming. Provided the old master is fit again by then. /

Federer is the record champion in his home country with ten wins, most recently in 2019 in the final against Alex de Minaur. At the beginning of 2020, Federer had to have two operations on his right knee, in 2021 another operation followed after a short comeback in spring and summer.

In late 2021, Federer had stated that participation in the Wimbledon tournament this year was a very optimistic goal, but recently information had accumulated that a comeback at the Laver Cup at the end of August was more likely. Federer did not appear in the official registration list for Wimbledon, which was published last week.

Alcaraz in action in Basel on October 24th

For Alcaraz it is the first appearance in Basel, in the past two years the tournament had been canceled due to the corona pandemic.

Alcaraz shook up the tennis world in 2022 and has already won four tournaments - Rio de Janeiro and Barcelona, plus the two Masters events in Miami and Madrid. He is currently in 7th place in the ATP ranking. Alcaraz started as one of the big favorites at the French Open, but lost to Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals.

In Basel, Alcaraz will play their opening game on Monday 24 October, while Federer is scheduled to start the tournament on Tuesday 25 October.
