Dominic Thiem finally reported back in Bastad

Here is the match to read in the live ticker.

Looking lively next to Sebastian Baez - only very few players on the ATP tour can do that. The 1.70 meter tall Argentinian moves so quickly across the court that his opponents are always suspected of being a step too slow. For Dominic Thiem, however, the fact that he had to go over three sets twice in Bastad may also have played a role on Friday afternoon. First against Emil Ruusuvuori, then against Roberto Bautista Agut.

In the end, a possible sprint turned into a marathon again. In which Baez, who was able to win his first two sets in two straight sets, was then able to prevail against the Austrian US Open champion of 2020. And after the 6: 2, 6: 7 (5) and 6: 4 he is in the semifinals, where he meets either Andrey Rublev or Laslo Djere.

Baez got off to a better start and immediately took a break to make it 2-0. Thiem, on the other hand, had major problems with his forehand in the early stages, and the 28-year-old's balls kept sailing out. The 6:2 corresponded in clarity to the course of the game.

In the second act, Thiem then presented, but had to accept the rebreak to 3: 3. After exactly 90 minutes of play, Baez had his first match ball available, Thiem defended with a good serve. And played confidently into the tie-break. Baez took a 3-1 lead, the sides were changed for the first time at 3-3. After 100 minutes, Thiem had managed to equalize the set.

In the first game of the decisive set, Thiem had to fend off breakballs, just like when the score was 1-1. A few moments later the time had come, Baez took a 3-2 lead after a forehand error by Thiem. There were two chances for a rebreak at a score of 4: 3 for Baez, Thiem could not use them successfully,

In the first quarterfinals of the day, Francisco Cerundolo, another Argentinian, defeated Aslan Karatsev 7-5 and 6-1. The second game of the day went surprisingly smoothly to Pablo Carreno Busta 6:1 and 6:0. Diego Schwartzman suffered.
