Rodionov had come from qualifying into the main draw and had to face Maxime Cressy there straight away - the American had turned up the heat at the end of 2021 and reached the final at the ATP tournament in Melbourne at the beginning of this season.

Rodionov's victory was all the more surprising - 7: 6 (3), 4: 6 and 6: 2 for the 22-year-old. He now meets Vasek Pospisil.

For Rodionov, a good performance in Dallas is just right: the man from Austria has to defend almost half of his world ranking points this month , most recently he already lost 20 places after his early exit in Cleveland.

Stebe wins, Otte and Gojowczyk lose

Also in action were Cedrik-Marcel Stebe , Oscar Otte and Peter Gojowczyk.

Stebe won a hard-fought match against Denis Kudla 7:6 (7), 3:6, 6:3 and thus advanced to the next round, where he meets Reilly Opelka, who was second seeded.

Otte's opponent was Jack Sock , who, as a former top ten man, has seen much better days, but has recently achieved better results again. Things are also going well in Dallas now: The world number 147. won 6:4 and 6:4 and now meets the top seeded Taylor Fritz.

Peter Gojowczyk , with 97th place in the ATP ranking at least 24 places higher than his opponent Broady, started badly and was quickly 0: 5 behind, in the second round Gojowzcyk kept the game open at least until 4: 4. In the end it was still 1: 6 and 4: 6 for the Munich player, who has been waiting for a win for eleven matches.
