ATP Masters Madrid: Round of 16! Struff ends Lajovic's series
Jan-Lennard Struff is in the round of 16 of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid. The German Davis Cup player defeated Dusan Lajovic 6:7 (2), 6:3 and 6:3.

For Jan-Lennard Struff, the early departure in Munich was obviously only a small stumble on the way back to the extended world class. Because after the 6: 7 (2), 6: 3 and 6: 3 against Dusan Lajovic, the Warsteiner is already in the round of 16. And that as a lucky loser: Because after the defeat against Aslan Karatsev, Struff was actually already written off in Madrid. For Lajovic, this ended a series of seven match wins in a row. The Serb had triumphed before Madrid in Banja Luka, defeating Novak Djokovic and Andrey Rublev on the way to the title.
Struff had reached the quarterfinals in Monte Carlo a few days ago. In Madrid, either Frances Tiafoe or Pedro Cachin stands in the way of the Warsteiner.
Daniil Medvedev had previously reached the round of 16. However, the four-time tournament winner in 2023 had a tough fight with Alexander Shevchenko. Medvedev won 4:6, 6:1 and 7:5. Next opponent will be either Aslan Karatsev or Alex de Minaur.
