Alexander Zverev was satisfied with his first appearances at the Miami Open: Three sets were necessary against Borna Coric, but Zverev was happy to have gone through aggressively in the end and won exactly such a match.
And against Mackenzie McDonald: He didn't let anything burn at 6: 2, 6: 2, "I'm glad I found my rhythm a bit," he said afterwards. "I think the tournament will be even tougher from here, but I'm ready."
It could actually be tougher for Zverev. He now meets Thanasi Kokkinakis - and he had a splendid start to the season. Kokkinakis, a highly talented Australian and injured for a long time, surprisingly won the ATP tournament in Adelaide at the start of the year, putting himself back in the top 100. In 2015 he was already in 69th place.

So far in Miami, Kokkinakis has eliminated Richard Gasquet, Diego Schwartzman and Denis Kudla. With a win against Zverev he could crack the top 70 again.
For Zverev, Miami is also about taking a positive turn towards the clay court season, because 2022 didn't go as well as it should: at the Australian Open he lost in the round of 16, most recently there was disqualification in Acapulco and an early one Off in Indian Wells in the stats.
