The Sunshine Double 2023 ended without Dominic Thiem winning the match. The Austrian played well against Lorenzo Sonego, especially in the first set, but then had to admit defeat again 6:7 (7) and 2:6. Thiem lost to Adrian Mannarino in Indian Wells.
The first set went into the tiebreak with the serve, there was not a single break chance. In the short decision, Thiem had a set ball when the score was 6: 5, Sonego defended it with his own service. In the second act, the Italian started with two breaks, Thiem got one back to make it 2: 4, but had to give up his serve immediately. Sonego then served himself into the next round, where he met Daniel Evans.
