Spectators were excited to see how Holger Rune was able to overcome the strain of the previous day in his quarter-final match at the ATP Masters tournament against Jannik Sinner. After all, the Dane had to finish two three-set matches, including the marathon against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in more than 3.5 hours . The South Tyrolean, on the other hand, has strolled through the field so far, losing only nine games in two matches.

Rune showed from the start that he could keep up with the groundstrokes and keep putting pressure on Sinner. The 20-year-old earned the first break chance of the match in the third game, but Sinner countered with three first serves in a row to equalize. In the next game, the 22-year-old Sinner earned his first two chances and immediately took advantage of the first opportunity to break. The Australian Open champion then didn't let anything go wrong on his own serve and secured the set win with an ace without losing a point in the last game.

The second act started evenly before Sinner was able to create three break chances in the fifth game. Rune turned the game around with five points in a row and stayed in the set. At 5:5, the Dane was again down 0:40 after a warning for exceeding the time limit, but he was able to turn this around with his fighting spirit and strong serves, winning five consecutive points. In the tiebreak, Sinner, who had not allowed a break chance in the entire set, managed the first mini-break with a brilliant backhand passing shot and won two match points with his own serve to make it 6:4. However, Rune fought back brilliantly against defeat and spectacularly equalized the set by winning four points in a row.

The deciding round was also balanced for a long time. Rune had the first break chance, but he missed it. In the eighth game, Sinner had a break opportunity, but the Dane served him the break to take a 5:3 lead with a double fault. In the last game, Rune fought back to 30:30, but could no longer prevent Sinner's victory, who won 6:4, 6:7 (6) 6:3 with a service winner after 2:42 hours.

In the semifinals, the tournament's No. 2 will face two-time Monte Carlo champion Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece, who prevailed against Russian Karen Khachanov 6-2, 6-2 in 83 minutes.
