The world number two beat Ilya Ivashka 7: 5 and 6: 4 and is in the round of 16 of the Masters tournament in Paris. There the US Open Champ will meet Sebastian Korda tonight (from 7.30 p.m.), who took Marin Cilic 6: 2, 6: 4 out of the tournament.

Medvedev got going brilliantly, leading 5: 1, slamming a return past Ivashka from row 1, but then he started his chase. Medvedev became restless in the end, Ivashka actually came up to 5: 5. And then delivered a cruel service game. Medvedev then played the second round confidently and turned his third match point shortly before midnight.

Alexander Zverev at the start in the late afternoon

Medvedev has thus preserved his at least theoretical chances of world number 1 at the end of the year.

Previously in the evening Alexander Zverev had won his opening game , he will meet Grigor Dimitrov today (from late afternoon / early evening).

Dominik Koepfer starts against Hubert Hurkacz at 11 a.m. Koepfer is a lucky loser in the field and surprised on Wednesday with a victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime.
