"I returned better in the end. He just played too well at the beginning and played his service games quite comfortably," said Nadal. "That was the big problem. Then I used my chances, in the end I felt the ball better and put on pressure. The semifinals are a good success for me after such a long time without hard court tennis."
The first set was balanced at first, Nadal fended off a break ball in his second service game. Carreno-Busta established himself as a better player, however, in the seventh game he managed the decisive break. On his own serve he gave up only five points, after 42 minutes he got the first round.
The current number 15 almost took the momentum with him, in the first game of the second set he had three breakballs, but Nadal scored the next five points in a row. The 20-time Grand Slam winner stabilized, while Carreno-Busta made more mistakes, especially on the forehand. Nadal missed two break chances in the eighth game, but won his first set point to 7: 5 a little later.
In the decisive set, Carreno Busta seemed broken. Nadal broke to 3: 1, made 20 of the last 24 points and converted his first match point after 2:15 hours.
In the last match of the day, the semi-final opponent is determined: Alexander Zverev meets Stan Wawrinka. The game is accompanied on tennisnet.com in the live ticker .
