ATP Masters Paris: Jan-Lennard Struff moves into the second round

Jan-Lennard Struff has reached the second round at the ATP Masters in Paris. The 30-year-old Warsteiner beat the Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili on Monday 6: 4, 6: 2.

Struff, number 35 in the world rankings, will face number nine seeded Pablo Carreno Busta (Spain) or Hugo Gaston (France) in the fight for a place in the round of 16.

Against Basilashvili, Struff was a break behind in the first set, but then came on much stronger. He grabbed Basilashvili's service game to make it 5: 4 and used his first set ball. In the second run, Struff gave his first service, but then pulled away to 5: 1. After 1:25 hours he turned his third match point into victory on his own serve. For Basilashvili it was the eighth loss in a row.

Germany's top player Alexander Zverev is also at the start in Paris, he had a bye in the first round.

Austria's Dominic Thiem has canceled his participation. Thiem had injured his foot in Vienna.

In addition to Struff, Borna Coric, Feliciano Lopez and Jordan Thompson also celebrated opening wins in Paris.
