So much for the subject of form: Daniil Medvedev had rather struggled to reach the semi-finals in Toronto , opponent John Isner a little more relaxed and with the tailwind of the tournament victory in Atlanta. The best conditions for a close match between the two? No Medvedev only needed 55 minutes for his 6: 2, 6: 2 against the strong American.

"I played great and made almost no unforced mistakes," said Medvedev afterwards.

Medvedev in the final against Opelka

In the final, he surprisingly meets another service artist, Reilly Opelka , who surprisingly won against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Medvedev said he was very happy with his game, that he liked the US Open Series and that the longer it went, the better and better it was.

Medvedev managed four breaks in eight service games from Isner, bringing back a total of a crazy 84 percent of his returns .

Against Opelka, Medvedev leads 3: 1 in a direct comparison, but three encounters went into the decisive set. Opelka's only victory comes from the tournament in St. Petersburg in 2020.
