A match between Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Bublik without any drama? Wasn't necessarily to be expected anyway.

One thing first: Medvedev is through, he won after losing the first set, an interruption due to a rain shower helped him in the end - 4: 6, 6: 3, 6: 4. "So I like the rain now," said the world number two. /

The game's craziest scene, however, had happened regardless of the rain, at the beginning of the third set. A ball from Medvedev hit Bublik, who reacted brilliantly and flew there. Medvedev apologized with a quick "sorry" while he waited for the ball to hit the final smash - but here the referee stepped in. "Hindrance", so their verdict, Medvedev spoke during the rally. He no longer understood the world: he had to hit the ball afterwards, not Bublik! "Can you imagine how stupid this call is?" He chuckled in the direction of Bublik, who laughed loudly. "It will be on TennisTV," concluded Medvedev (perfectly correct). "He's laughing at you too. It's amazing what you did."

Bublik himself had not yet understood the situation at all. "So you're saying I broke the point?" - "No, he disturbed the point!" And now? Repetition - no, so the episode, the point went to Bublik. (Who, however, did not come up with the world idea of giving Medvedev the point or giving two new ones.)

Tsitsipas initially awards five match points

And otherwise? Was also played tennis in Toronto. From the point of view of Stefanos Tsitsipas, however, longer than planned. In the end, he won 6: 3, 6: 7 (13), 6: 1 against Ugo Humbert, where he already served in the second set and failed to use five match points in the tie-break.

Also on, among others: Reilly Opelka (6: 3, 6: 4 against Grigor Dimitrov), Casper Ruud (6: 3, 3: 6, 6: 3 against Marin Cilic), John Isner (6: 4, 6: 1 against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina) and Benoit Paire (6: 3, 6: 4 against Mackenzie McDonald).

Rafael Nadal left before the first match , he still has problems with his left foot.
