Novak Djokovic won't play in Miami

Andrey Rublev had already announced it after his quarter-final victory in Dubai, and on Friday evening Novak Djokovic himself confirmed: The world number one will not take part in the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Miami, which begins on March 24th.

"Dear fans, I am very sorry to announce that I am not going to Miami this year to compete in the tournament. I have decided to use this precious time at home to stay with my family. With all the restrictions I have to I find a balance between my time on tour and my time at home. I'm looking forward to coming back next year! "wrote Djokovic on Twitter.

After the cancellations of Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, Roger Federer and other top players, the organizers around tournament director James Blake have to accept another setback. The field in Miami is now led by world number two Daniil Medvedev, followed by Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev.

Djokovic will therefore most likely only return to the tour at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo. In terms of points, the cancellation for Miami should also be manageable, as the Serb had already failed in the round of 16 in 2019 to Roberto Bautista Agut and only half of his points will be deducted due to the new ranking regulations.
