As the 21st of the world ranking announced on Thursday, he had already suffered an injury to his abdominal muscles during the preliminary round of the ATP Cup. In an investigation after the defeat of the Australians in the semi-final against Spain on January 11, this finally turned out to be a four centimeter long crack.

"It's devastating," said de Minaur . At the ATP Cup in the group phase he had first defeated Alexander Zverev in three sets when he met Germany in Brisbane. In his subsequent victory against Denis Shapovalov (Canada), he "felt something for the first time", reported the 20-year-old. In the end, he "didn't even get out of bed".
