Tsitsipas beat Fritz 4: 6, 6: 4, 4: 6, 6: 3 and 6: 4 and is among the last eight in Melbourne. However, Tsitsipas had to fight hard against the American and make up for a 1: 2 set deficit.

Tsitsipas came to Australia with a few question marks: After elbow problems in late 2021, the Greek had to undergo an operation at the end and therefore had only a shortened preparation. The joy of the semi-finalists in 2019 and 2021 is correspondingly great.

In Melbourne, Tsitsipas got into the round of 16 with two narrow four-set wins, against Fritz he needed 3 hours and 23 minutes to progress.

Jannik Sinner is now waiting: he had beaten Australia's hopeful Alex de Minaur in three sets.
