"What I saw at Wimbledon and the weeks after that without coaches and successes worries me. How long will she want to play tennis because it is no fun and makes no sense," said Becker at Eurosport.

Rittner has known the 31-year-old Kerber for a long time and knows that the world rankings 14. "It takes time" to hire a new trainer. "In any case, she is someone who needs leadership, because she is a person who despite the successes always doubts, questions himself, feels uncomfortable and becomes almost a little depressed or sad alone," said Rittner.

The three-time Grand Slam winner Kerber, who won the US Open in 2016, was recently in a downward spiral: the opening defeat at the French Open was followed by the second-round defeat as defending champion in Wimbledon, winning the subsequent tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati she's not a match. An alarm signal for Rittner. "If there isn't someone by your side soon, then I don't have a good feeling."

Kerber meets Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic at the start of the last Grand Slam tournament of the year.
