US Open 2023: Bencic continues, Rybakina fails

The US Open is over for Elena Rybakina , Belinda Bencic moved into the round of 16.

Against the Romanian Sorana Cirstea, who was ranked 30th, Rybakina's match was over after 2:48 hours. Only a single break in the third set brought the decision and the elimination for the two-time Grand Slam winner. Both players served very stably throughout the match. The only break in the first set was enough for Cirstea to take the lead.

The second round had to be decided in a tiebreak. Rybakina needed three set points to equalize the game. An extra time that had the better ending for the Romanian, 6:3, 6:7(6), 6:4.

Bencic also has to go the full distance

Belinda Bencic and Lin Zhu also played three sets on the grandstand. Bencic was certainly challenged against the 44th in the world rankings. After changing service games, the Swiss clearly secured the first set, at least in the tiebreak. At the end of the second set, Bencic appeared vulnerable and briefly lost control of the match. Bencic, seeded 15th, found this control again in the third set and secured victory 7:6(1), 2:6, 6:3 without losing serve.

IBencic will now face Rybakina conqueror Sorana Cirstea in the round of 16.
