The project has been announced as "The Player", and it is primarily about the sports history of the tennis star. The media site DWDL.de reports. Samuel Finzi, Anna Schudt and Hans-Jochen Wagner are already on board as actors. The screenplay is said to have been written by Richard Kropf and Marcus Schuster. /

The film should start with the beginning of Becker's career up to the Wimbledon victory. The uncompromising nature of professional sports, the tough struggle upwards and insights into the psyche and life of a young athlete should form the core points.

The project's working title is "The Player", but the final title should be different: "The Player" was already the widely-acclaimed ARD documentary about Becker from 2017; "I'm a player" again a rather critical biography of the British journalist Fred Sellin from 2002.

Becker knows nothing of new film

Boris Becker, however, does not seem to be involved in the project (yet). Becker's lawyer Oliver Moser told BILD : "Basically, he is open to this idea. However, from a legal point of view, it is difficult to produce a biographical film without first including it."

Who should play Becker also seems open. Producer Michael Souvignier this : "... The auditions for the lead role were postponed, interrupted the plans we were originally going to decide in May who plays Boris Becker But that will now take another We all hope the situation that will soon change."

Schudt (46, "crime scene") is said to act as Mama Elvira, Finzi (54, "Kokowääh") as father Karl-Heinz. And Wagner (51, "Tatort") is supposed to mime the then Becker coach Günther Bosch.

In 2015, cinema star Matthias Schweighöfer had already announced that he wanted to film Becker's life. However, this project should have nothing to do with the new one, says Souvignier.
