Djokovic had recently said that it was almost impossible to travel to the US Open with just one companion. "I mean, you need your trainer, then a fitness trainer, then a physiotherapist," said the world number one about the scenarios for the US Open. Due to the corona pandemic, they are currently planning their tournament without spectators , but also on the part of the players with as little accompanying staff as possible.

A problem that would not arise for most of the professionals anyway. After all, almost only the top earners of the scene have staff that go beyond a possible coach - such as the personal fitness trainer, physiotherapist or cook. /

Collins: "It would be nice if the best player supports us"

So also Danielle Collins, currently number 51 in the world, who can hardly take Djokovic's worries. She also sees a contrast between Djokovic's call for a player fund to help lower-rated players and his current comments. Since February, no one has been able to make money, now you have the incredible opportunity to play the US Open, provided that the tournament is as safe as possible and that the health of the players comes first.

"And then the best player in the world comes and says it's difficult because he can't bring his entire entourage with him." It was all pretty easy when someone made $ 150 million and said what others should do with their money - but in contrast, downplayed a way to make the US Open happen. "Those of us (the majority of players) who don't travel with an entire entourage - we have to work again. And it would be nice if the best player in the world supported this opportunity and didn't spoil it for the players and fans."

A decision as to whether and how the US Open will take place should be made in the coming days. USTA is currently planning a tournament without qualifications, to the displeasure of the ATP and WTA . For safety reasons, the players should be flown in with charter flights and should only be on the layout for a short time.
