He once didn't hit a ball on the return in a double, but it worked with the cap the wrong way: Marc-Kevin Goellner.

The greatest successes of his professional career as a tennis player were the surprising victory at the ATP tournament in Nice in 1993, the Davis Cup title with Germany in the same year and the bronze medal in doubles with David Prinosil at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

Today the family man, born on September 22nd, 1970 in Rio de Janeiro, runs a tennis academy named after him in Cologne and keeps an eye on what is going on on the international tour. He hopes for a new tennis boom in Germany, as he last said: "I'm quite optimistic. If Sascha Zverev should win one or two Grand Slam tournaments, it will be possible."

Goellner: Short comeback at the age of 45

Goellner climbed to 26th place in the world rankings in his career. It wasn't enough for more because, unlike Boris Becker and Michael Stich, he couldn't withstand the great pressure. "The pressure that the public put on, but also the pressure that I put on myself," he once said.

Goellner made a brief comeback five years ago, at the age of 45 when he accompanied a student to the ITF tournament in Antalya and competed in the qualification himself - and made it into the main draw.
