After Dominik Koepfer's two-set success over Filip Krajinovic , Jan-Lennard Struff had the chance to organize a victory for the German Davis Cup team against Serbia in the second game of the day. The challenge could not have been greater, however, as Novak Djokovic , the current world number one, was waiting.

And the 20-time Grand Slam winner showed in Innsbruck why he will finish as the industry leader again in 2021: Djokovic won the first eight points of the game and didn't let anything burn afterwards. The 34-year-old only needed 28 minutes to win the first set 6-2.

The second round continued in a similar key. Djokovic took the serve from Struff again in the first game and gave the Warsteiner no chance of a comeback despite the increase in performance. After 72 minutes of play, the Serb converted his second match point to a 6: 2 and 6: 4 success.

Thus, the decision about the victory in the country comparison between Germany and Serbia will only be made in doubles. DTB captain Michael Kohlmann initially nominated Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz, his counterpart Viktor Troicki Djokovic and Krajinovic. However, the two team bosses could change their lineups just before the double.
