Her ambition was not to "just return for a year. The plan goes beyond that," said the former world leader.

She was "still motivated. If the US Open can take place, I want to be ready. It would be great to play at Arthur Ashe Stadium again, but I would also be happy if I had to play on Court 18," added Clijsters on.

The triple mother, who had topped the world rankings for 20 weeks between 2003 and 2011 in four periods, had resigned in 2007 because of her first pregnancy. In 2009 she returned and in the same year won the US Open title for the second time after 2005, which she successfully defended in 2010. In addition, she won the Australian Open in 2011. After her second-round loss at the 2012 US Open against the British Laura Robson, Clijsters resigned. In total, she celebrated 41 tournament victories.
