In the morning, the two youngsters Jurij Rodionov (ATP No. 166) and Lenny Hampel (ATP No. 715) were deployed. Rodionov was already under pressure after his surprising defeat against Jürgen Melzer on Wednesday, but withstood it despite a break in set two: 7: 6 (7), 0: 6 and 6: 4 was the end result for the 21-year-old , which made up a 2: 4 deficit in the decision set. Both Rodionov and Hampel therefore have one win and one defeat.

Dominic Thiem (ATP No. 3) had to wait until the early evening hours before the weather conditions allowed competition tennis again. Against Sandro Kopp (ATP No. 801) Thiem had an apparently easy match on paper, but Kopp showed little respect for the Australian Open finalists. Thiem made many mistakes without need in windy conditions, Kopp came early for a break and played very patiently, especially from the defensive. Even though Thiem quickly equalized and was close to winning the set at 5: 4 and 3:30 p.m., it was again Kopp who kept his nerve, waited patiently, then again benefited from Lichtenwörther's mistakes and snapped the first set. Thiem also had to fend off a breakball at the start of the second round, but managed to make it 3-1 and then played the match home with confidence. He is currently first in Group A.

After that, veteran Jürgen Melzer (39 years) put his young opponent Marko Andrejic (17 years) in his place - 6: 1, 6: 1 for the former number 8 in the tennis world. Melzer excelled in particular with fine net actions, he now has two wins from two matches and leads Group B with it.
