World number three, Naomi Osaka , made it to the round of 16 at the WTA tournament for the Gippsland Trophy. Likewise Laura Siegemund - she is now facing a real acid test.

The 32-year-old from Metzingen won her second round match against the Australian wildcard player Destanee Aiava 6: 2, 6: 2. The next opponent is the top seeded Romanian Simona Halep, number two in the world.
Siegemund is the last remaining German in the hard court tournament for the Gippsland Trophy. On Monday, Andrea Petkovic from Darmstadt was eliminated in round two against number three Ukrainian Elina Svitolina.
Naomi Osaka also made a strong impression. The number two seeded Japanese won against French Alize Cornet 6: 2, 6: 2 and is now playing against Katie Boulter. The British had previously won against US hope Cori Gauff 3: 6, 7: 5, 6: 2.
