Nick Kyrgios: I hardly missed tennis and most of the players

Nick Kyrgios apparently did not have any tennis withdrawal symptoms in his free time. "I'm honest, I hardly missed the game," he said on Saturday.

"I am a competitor in everything I do," he continued. For example, he played computer games to get the adrenaline rush. Tennis was "really not missing".

On Monday, Kyrgios will meet Alexander Muller from France, currently number 208 in the ATP ranking, in the first round of the Murray River Open. It will be Kyrgios' first professional match in a year.

He wanted to gain distance, which is why Kyrgios didn't even touch a bat in the first four or five months of the break. "I didn't really miss a lot of people, except for a few of my Australian colleagues or good friends," said Kyrgios. He criticized Novak Djokovic for drawing up a list of wishes for players in the hotel quarantine in Australia in the middle of the month.

Kyrgios: "I am fresh and ready"

Kyrgios was happy to have had this "crazy year" with his family and friends. In training, the Australian played with compatriot Jordan Thompson, who traveled to Kyrgios in Canberra for a few weeks of training. "I feel mentally fresh and ready," said Kyrgios. "I think I play pretty well. Everyone only reacts to what is said. Nobody really knows how in good shape the others are. I try to have fun as much as possible."

Should Kyrgios survive his first round, there could be a direct duel with Bernard Tomic, who will face Marc Polmans in round one. Stan Wawrinka is top seeded at the ATP 250 tournament in Melbourne and, like seven other seeded players, has a bye at the start. Here is the entire draw for the tournament.
