The match between Nadal and Ferrer lasted almost two hours - with a break in the rain causing a break. 6: 3, 6: 3 was the end for Nadal, who is aiming for his twelfth title in Barcelona.
Nadal hugged his old companion after the match ball on the net. Nadal and Ferrer faced each other 32 times on the court, "Rafa" won 26 times, "Ferru" 6 times. In June 2013 they both contested the final of the French Open, with Nadal winning three sets.
After the match, Ferrer put his headband on the center court's T-field when he was adopted by the audience and Nadal. The 37-year-old will play his farewell tournament in Madrid (from May 5).
Jarry takes Dimitrov out
Dominic Thiem (7: 5, 6: 1 against Jaume Munar) , Kei Nishikori (6: 1, 6: 3 against Felix Auger-Aliassime) and Daniil Medvedev (6: 3, 6: 2 against Mackenzie McDonald) had previously Round of eight reached.
Somewhat surprisingly, Lucky Loser Nicolas Jarry won 2: 6, 6: 4, 7: 6 (2) against Grigor Dimitrov, who will continue to slip in the world rankings - the Bulgarian is currently only ranked 43rd. The aspiring Chilean Jarry is currently number 81. He had already defeated Alexander Zverev on Tuesday, also in the tiebreak of the third set.
