Qualifier Quiroz beat oldie Ivo Karlovic 6: 2, 6: 4 and wrote something like Ecuadorian sports history: He is the first Ecuadorian in an ATP quarter-finals since Nicolas Lapentti in 2008. No wonder, by the way: Quiroz is Lapentti's cousin. And, after all, the world is small: the nephew of Andres Gomez, winner of the French Open in 1990. /

It was clear early on that Quiroz, who is now 28, could also look good with tennis. In 2010 he was in the top ten in the juniors and won the doubles competitions of the French Open and US Open. The big breakthrough has been denied to him (so far), place 172 in the individual was the highest of feelings, currently he is number 293. Through his run in Delray Beach - including surviving qualification - he is place 251 in the live ranking.

Will it go on for Quiroz in Delray Beach? Why not - next it's against Hubert Hurkacz, who was seeded at four. Also in the round of the last eight, including: John Isner, seeded at two, who meets Sebastian Korda.
