Roger Federer doesn't think about retiring: "No plans for retirement"

Even at the age of 38, tennis superstar Roger Federer doesn't think about retiring. "I like to keep playing, but you never know. But at the moment I have no plans for retirement," said the Grand Slam record winner from Switzerland before the charity event "Match in Africa" in Cape Town.

"As long as the family is healthy, my wife is cool with it and I feel pretty good, I can still compete at the highest level, as I did in Australia again," said Federer. At the Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne, he most recently failed in the semifinals against eventual winner Novak Djokovic .

First of all, Federer now focuses on a good cause. On Friday he is holding a show event in Cape Town for the sixth time, with the proceeds from which he will support educational projects for African children.

Federer hopes for a world record

"A dream comes true for me," said the 20-time major champion, whose mother Lynette is a South African, "We hope to be able to raise at least a million dollars. I think it will be more than that." The event had previously been held three times in Zurich and twice in the USA.

The highlight in South Africa is a single against the 19-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal, before there is a double with Microsoft founder Bill Gates and the South African comedian and TV presenter Trevor Noah. Federer and the organizers hope for more than 50,000 spectators in the Cape Town football stadium - this would be a record for a tennis match. The previous record is the 42,517 spectators who attended the exhibition fight between Federer and Alexander Zverev in the bullfighting arena in Mexico City last November.
