A total of 64,000 people in Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi are to be cared for with the help of the Grand Slam record champion for the next two months.
Many children get the only nutritious meal of the day at school. "With schools closed, children no longer have access to these meals. Hunger is a problem, especially in those countries where the lockdown hits families with no reserves," said Janine Haendel, CEO of the Roger Federer Foundation, in a press release With.
The foundation was founded in 2003 and has since supported educational projects in southern Africa and Switzerland. On the African continent, work is focused on promoting early childhood education. The foundation cooperates with local NGOs and authorities.
At the end of March, Federer and his wife Mirka had already donated one million Swiss francs to the families most at risk from the corona virus in Switzerland. All information about the work of the Roger Federer Foundation can be found here .
