"I'm only human too. After my game, I received more than 2,000 abuse and anger comments from people who were upset by the result yesterday," Stephens wrote on an Instagram story. "It's so hard to read messages like this, but post a few of them to make yourselves very much like it is after a loss." /

Stephens lost 7: 5, 2: 6, 3: 6 to Angelique Kerber on Friday after a strong performance. Most recently, after her US Open victory in 2017, she slipped in the world rankings, and is currently 66th.

Sloane Stephens: "Not enough talked about"

Stephens was threatened with rape, assault and time in prison, among other things, in the Instagram messages. "This kind of hatred is so exhausting and never stops," continued the American. "It's not talked about enough either, and it's annoying."

She is happy to have people in her corner who support her. "I choose the positive vibes over the negative." Stephens also finally shared a few messages from her team that said she was on the right track and will soon make it back into the top 10.

Hate news in tennis: Keys and Kyrgios also complain about it

Hate messages after defeats are unfortunately not uncommon in tennis, almost all tennis players receive them after defeats or unfavorable game play. They usually come from embittered bettors who bet on a player and lost.

Madison Keys , Nick Kyrgios and Belinda Bencic had also posted messages of this kind online in the past and denounced that they were not being dealt with in any way.
