Stefanos Tsitsipas admits mental fatigue in the corona season

The shaved tour calendar for the 2020 season has significantly reduced the physical exertion of the ATP players. The mental challenge becomes all the more a problem as players have to constantly adhere to health protocols in order to counteract the spread of the coronavirus. Stefanos Tsitsipas admitted this on the sidelines of the ATP tournament in Paris-Bercy.

The Paris-Bercy Masters is usually the point in the season when surprises are particularly likely. In the final stages of a season, many players pay tribute to a long year. This year, however, the entire Asia swing was canceled. The tour was completely suspended in March, and Cincinnati and the US Open only started again in August.

"I feel good, I am not exhausted because I played a few tournaments," said Tsitsipas on Sunday. "The part that makes it tiresome is the virus. Conditions are constantly changing, that's the biggest challenge."

The reigning ATP Finals champion recently took a vacation with NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. Tsitsipas described it as a great experience as he could learn a lot from the Milwaukee Bucks forward.

Tsitsipas won the tournament in Marseille and reached the final in Dubai before the tour was interrupted by the pandemic. After the break he played in the final in Hamburg and in the semi-finals of the French Open.

"My attitude has improved a lot," said Tsitsipas. "My calm on the pitch gave me confidence in my abilities when there are tight moments."

Tsitsipas surprisingly failed in the last sixteen at the Erste Bank Open last week to Grigor Dimitrov. In Paris-Bercy he meets Ugo Humbert after a bye in his first match, who prevailed against Casper Ruud.
