Tallon Griekspoor revs up in Rotterdam and defeats Karatsev

Tallon Griekspoor (ATP No. 62) has once again demonstrated his love for Rotterdam at home. Against Aslan Karatsev he turned his first round match, which he thought he had lost several times.

Griekspoor, in Rotterdam via wild card in the main draw, won against the seventh seeded man from Russia 2:6, 7:6 (2), 7:6. The 25-year-old managed a real Houdini act: He was already 2: 6 and 2: 5 behind, and in the third round he was twice a break behind. When the score was 4:5, he even had to fend off two match balls (on his own serve).

Rotterdam remains a great place for Griekspoor. Against Karatsev he managed his third win over a top 20 player ever, and all of them happened in Rotterdam: 2018 against Stan Wawrinka, 2019 against Karen Khachanov and now against Karatsev.

Griekspoor has been in great form lately

Griekspoor recently made it into the top 100 in the world for the first time with a great Challenger run. He won five tournaments in a row between September and November 2021 and went undefeated for a total of 28 games until the ATP tournament in Melbourne earlier in the year (he missed out on his quarter-final match against Rafael Nadal).

In Rotterdam he now meets the winner of the match between Filip Krajinovic and Marton Fucsovics.

The top seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas (against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, from 7.30 p.m.) and Andrey Rublev (against Henri Laaksonen, now live ) are also in action at the 500 tournament in the Netherlands today.
